After eight weeks, five rounds and nearly 8,000 votes, we can finally announce that The Football Attic's 'Worst Thing About Modern Football' is...

Greed In General!

(Who knew?)

As predictable and logical as it might seem, the lust for money that pervades the modern game only just snatched a win in our Final with 53% of the votes cast compared to 47% for the runner-up, 'Rebranding / Ignoring Club History'. Suffice to say that many of you were torn between two such emotive issues and the final voting reflected their significance in the minds of the modern-day football supporter.

It goes without saying that 'Greed In General' was always an early favourite to win, and it lived up to its top billing with strong victories in each of the rounds leading up to the Final. It's also interesting to note that 'Greed In General' and 'Rebranding / Ignoring Club History' were the two qualifiers from Group B in the Third Round, and even then, the former only just received more votes than the latter.

So with that, we draw our 'Worst Thing About Modern Football' contest to a close. We'd like to send an enormous 'thank you' to all of you that took the time and trouble to vote and for making our informal competition such a great success.

Now go back to watching Premier League football on satellite TV while wearing your expensive replica shirt... it's the only decent thing to do! :-)

Modern Football? It's terrible, isn't it? Like, really bad! OK, it's not all wrong, but there's a hell of a lot NOT right with it!  But just exactly which part of modern football is the worst, the absolute barrel scraper, the Justin Bieber of football? The Andy Townsend...

It's that crucial moment in any competition - the semi-finals, a time when glory is tantalisingly within reach of those competing entities, a time when fortune favours the brave and losers are forgotten. Well, something like that in any case.

Yes, we're finally down to the last four in our search for The Worst of Modern Football, and thanks to your voting in the last round, they're a fine four to choose from.

You can see the results from Round 3 on our Worst of Modern Football page, but in short you ranked 'Ticket Prices' and 'The Media Love-In With All Things Premier League' as the winners from Group A and 'Greed In General' and 'Rebranding / Ignoring Club History' the winners from Group B. Yes folks, our quest to establish the worst thing about modern football finds itself with just eight candidates remaining, and once again we're asking you to cast your vote to determine our final four.

As we do so, we'd once again like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that have taken part in the first two rounds of the competition so far. We received well over 7,000 votes which just goes to show how emotive the whole topic of 'modern football' is for so many of us, so thanks again!

So now it's time for Round 3 - the quarter final stage, if you like - and for this we've randomly drawn the remaining eight candidates into two groups (shown below). What's the Worst Thing about Modern Football? - Round 2

Wow! What can we say other than WOW! The response to this has been absolutely fantastic!!!

The work continues however...we may have shed the likes of 'Modern Day MOTD' and 'The Second Commentator', but still in contention are the likes of 'Half and Half Scarves' and 'Ticket Prices'.

Round 2 has been split into 8 groups of 3 and this time, you can only choose 1 thing...that will leave us nicely with 8 things left for the 1/4 final straight knockout...wait a minute, this whole thing has turned into the same format as the Champions League!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!

The Worst of Modern Football?

Here in the Attic, we love the "good old days"! This doesn't mean we don't like football now, but there are some things we just can't stand!

What with the growing Against Modern Football movement and a general sense of disenchantment about the game we all love, Chris and I were discussing what we despise most about the modern game.

My personal bugbear is one word..."Tekkers." Just hearing that word as I type it makes me want to punch a wall!!!
