I recently purchased the newly released LOGacta20. I've been playing it with my 6 year old Son, albeit a watered down version of the FA Cup competition only, he doesn't have the attention span yet! Loved this game; early teenage years happily spent using the sheets and dice selector before branching out using notebooks and expanding the dice selector to allow for teams rated 6 onwards, especially for internationals. I remember in season 1 Liverpool won the European Cup as holders (so must have been in 1997/78 and got relegated from the Super League. I also remember re-creating the Texaco Cup - anyone remember that?
Since then I created a version for my daughters when they were old enough to appreciate it, including introducing random incidents such as awarding a penalty or deducting a goal because a team's star striker was injured/sent off etc
I still have the original book with the charts, dice (rather faded) and dice selector but the box is long gone - and wouldn't sell them for anything!!!
During lockdown I've created an Excel version, that produces the results and updates the league tables using macros. Purely for personal use I've based the main four division league on the Game of Thrones territories, with three 'national league' tiers based on Tolkein's Middle Earth. But the rest of Europe - for the Champions League etc - is based on current european leagues. But only champions play in the champions league.
I suspect a new version would not be commercially viable, not least because it is so easy to create in Excel, but I wouldn't want to put anyone off trying!! Logacta always won out over Subbuteo because of the ability to complete seasons and create a sense of history. However, Subbuteo cricket (which I have still, though the scoreboards are a bit rusty) i played for so many hours! No wonder my O level results werent impressive!! The basic element of the game was each half the home team would have 6 rolls of a dice, the away team would have 4 rolls of the dice. If you rolled 4-6 you had a scoring opportunity. Then roll the dice again to determine which player was having the scoring opportunity. This was determined by roll 1 defender 2-3 midfielder 4-6 striker.

So if you rolled a 4-6 your strikers would have a opportunity to score. So if Dalglish and Rush were your strikers. If you rolled 1-3 Dalglish would have chance, rolled 4-6 Rush would have a chance. Both strikers were rated excellent so if they rolled 2-6 they had a shot on goal. That was an exceptional partnership very rare.

The opposing team defended the shot. Once the defender (4 of them) was picked by dice (centre backs would be dice roll 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 left back 5 and right back 6. So if you rolled a 5 the left back would defend the shot. They would always defend with the keeper (who was rated 2 to 6) so imagine the left back was rated 4 and goal keeper 4. You would have to roll 8-12 (using both sides added together) to defend the shot. If you didn't defend it, it was a goal.

There were added elements to the game for example if a six was rolled you had an opportunity to roll another dice to see if you could another 6. If so it was a penalty. If a penalty it was a goal, if you rolled 2-6.

In derby games. Instead of 6 and 4 rolls of the dice in each half for home and away it was 5 and 4 rolls for home and away.

Injuries after each games. Each team in the league had rolls of the dice, two rolls of two dice, if you had any doubles, you had an injury of a player. The injury length would be determined by roll 1-3, Injury between 1 to 3 games. If you rolled 4-5. Injury of 1 to 5 games. If rolled 6 injury of 6-12 games.

Attendances were also decided. That was a complex formula decided by average gate previous season, home team where they were in the table, away team where they were in the table. If first 10 games of the season, it was decided on previously final league standings. if a derby a percentage was added. This was decided to the thousand. The rest of the attendance was decided by randomly picking an attendance via the Rothmans year book .so if your formula equalled an attendance of 32,000. Then the Rothmans book random attendance I would pick a game with the hundreds. Say it picked a gate of 43,234. You would have the last three figures to your gate which would equal in this example to 32,234. Hope that makes sense.

Overall the game had very realistic score lines (and attendances) the hardest part was deciding at the start of the season what the player ratings were.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702800010273076139.post-5550840278389799572019-12-14T10:57:10.628+00:002019-12-14T10:57:10.628+00:00Had the game as a child, loved it, gutted I didn’t...Had the game as a child, loved it, gutted I didn’t keep it ....
They really should reinvent the game Alanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09359257857264840231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702800010273076139.post-49561266115377213772019-10-01T18:07:07.981+01:002019-10-01T18:07:07.981+01:00I played this back in the 70's and was hooked ...I played this back in the 70's and was hooked from a small boy to early teenage years. We were looking into creating an electronic version of the game which I enjoyed playing in my youth for a Nintento DS back in the day. In the end nothing came of it as we didn't have the knowledge or contact to take it to the market and were also unsure of copyright etc! The idea was put on the back burner until recently when I revisited my logacta PC files and worked on an extensive updated version in excel comprising seven 16 team domestic leagues from Premier League to National League North/South with end of season promotion play-offs, FA Cup with 124 teams from first round, 64 team EFL Cup, full versions of UCL and UEL starting from qualifying phase and also international competitions including the new UEFA Nations League.
It works well in excel and I'm currently running a 'trial season' the 'dice' are same colours as the original ones but are eight sided to give more realistic scores.
My marketing issues are the same as 2009 in that I don't know of the best way to transform my version into an app or other platform.
One thing I am confident of is it could be a sure fire hit as Logacta was in the 70's! So if there is anyone out there who could help point me in the right direction or join me in the venture please get in touch and hopefully we can take it to the next level. Seems sad to throw it out, though all the forms are completely filled out. Think I'm a little old to start playing it again. I'd play for hours in the 70's and looking back there were some great scoreline. Shrewsbury Town (why?) Won the UEFA Cup in my final season, 6-5 v Man City. Other amazing scores, and some great performances by Sutton Albion! Even Spurs made a late dash in the final season to actually win the league. Think I'll have to hang on to it, and perhaps find it in another 20 years.Dan Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06831076573604556076noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702800010273076139.post-72607628557973003952017-01-03T22:27:15.536+00:002017-01-03T22:27:15.536+00:00I am redesiging Logacta Board Version for 2017. I created my own 22 team First Division as it was in the early 1970s, copied the actual league fixtures of the day and squared everything off on graph paper. Did a 64 team FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup etc and forgot all about my schoolwork! I even used three ordinary dice to create goalscorers. With the minimum total being 3 and the maximum being 18, 3, 4, 16,17 and 18 were reserved for defenders, 5, 6, 7, 14, and 15 for midfielders and the more popular 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 given over to forwards. Lot of work but it led to more authenticity and the craic was good. As you can probably tell little amused me! I absolutely loved it. I recently developed an Excel version, but as others has mentioned it doesn't feel the same on a PC - I think it's addictiveness stems from having sheets to fill in, cards to manually draw, dice to throw - you really felt part of the game, whereas just seeing scores generated by Excel is not as exciting. Anyway, thanks for the blog Chris - it's nice to see so many happy memories of a wonderful game

Leon WilsonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
